Subject

Johnson, Gordon, 1842-1919
Bicycles & tricycles--1900-1920
Street scenes--Mass.--Conway

Description

1) B/W photograph, 4" x 3", of a man, possibly Gordon Johnson, sitting on a "Penny Farthing" bicycle and propping himself against a gas pump on what is probably Main Street in Conway. The wheels of the bicycle are adorned with a streamer in a spiral pattern. Creases in photo. Captioned on the back:
"Gordon Johnson
Grandfather of Jenny Hassell
c. late 20's
- on a decorated 'Penny Farthing'"
Note that Gordon Johnson died in 1919, so subject might be someone else or, more likely, the photograph is from an earlier time.

2) B/W photograph, 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" of "Penny Farthing" bicycle owned by the Johnson family. Overexposed and poor contrast.
